Additional Contraindications to Consider for Permanent Makeup:

Medical / Skin Considerations:

Fitzpatrick Skin Type 1 (very fair skin prone to redness and sensitivity): While not a strict contraindication, it can affect pigment retention and healing — should be evaluated carefully.

Rosacea or severely sensitive skin: The inflammation and reactivity can lead to poor healing and unpredictable results.

Seborrheic dermatitis or oily skin in brow area: Especially relevant for microblading — excess oil can blur hair strokes.

Cold sores / Herpes Simplex Virus: Antiviral medication is suggested before procedure to prevent outbreaks if there is a history of facial outbreaks, even if there's no active flare-up.

Recent major surgery or hospitalization: Healing resources are compromised, and the body may be more prone to infection.

Recent infections, illness or vaccination (within 2 weeks): Immune system changes can affect healing and pigment retention.

Allergies to pigments, numbing agents, or topical anesthetics: Always check for known allergies; a patch test may be advisable for sensitive clients.

Lifestyle / Behavioral Considerations:

Frequent sun exposure or tanning:
UV exposure can alter healed results and increase fading; should be minimized before and after.

Frequent chemical exfoliation or retinoid use: Long-term users may have thinner, more fragile skin that heals poorly and effects color tone and retention.

Inability to follow aftercare instructions: Clients must be able to commit to the healing period and avoid sweating, makeup, or sun exposure.

Clients with highly specific or perfection-driven expectations: Permanent makeup is an enhancement, not a replacement for daily makeup or natural asymmetry. It’s important that clients have realistic expectations and trust the healing process to achieve the best results.

Immunocompromised (e.g., post-organ transplant or advanced autoimmune conditions): Increased risk of infection and poor healing.

What is corrective brow work?

Corrective brow work is for clients who’ve had previous brow procedures that need reshaping, color correction, or complete revision. A virtual consultation is required to assess your needs; please send clear photos before booking.

Brows must be significantly faded or removed/lightened before proceeding.

back

Can I get my brows done if I’ve had previous work?

Yes, but we’ll need to evaluate the shape, color, and depth of the previous pigment. Please send clear photos before booking.

back

How long do results last?

Microblading/Nano/Combo Brows: Typically 1-5 years with proper care. Touch-ups are recommended every 1-5 years as brows have faded.

Lamination, Tinting, and Waxing: Results last 3–6 weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle and skin type. You must wait 6 weeks between lamination services to maintain strength in your brow hair.

back

Does it hurt?

We’ve worked hard to create the most comfortable, pain-free experience possible. From the high-quality products we use to our gentle technique and calming environment, most clients experience little to no discomfort—often describing the sensation as minimal and easily manageable.

back

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and blood-thinning medications 24 hours prior.
No tanning, facials, or exfoliating at least 3 days before.

back

What is the aftercare like?

You'll receive detailed aftercare instructions. In general, avoid sweating, sun exposure, swimming, and applying makeup to the brow area during the healing process (typically 7–14 days).

What to Expect? PMU Brow Healing Timeline

Understanding the healing process is key to getting the best results from your brow treatment. Here's a general 4-6 week timeline of what you can expect:

back

Day 1 – Immediate Results
Your brows will appear bold, well-defined, and darker than expected. This is completely normal and part of the initial healing phase.

Days 2–4 – Darkening Phase
The pigment may appear even darker during these days. This is temporary and will begin to fade as your skin heals.

Days 5–7 – Peeling & Patchiness
As your skin begins to heal, you may experience flaking or peeling. Your brows might look uneven or patchy during this stage. Avoid picking or scratching the area.

Days 8–10 – Fading Phase
It may seem like your brows have faded or disappeared entirely. This is due to the skin regenerating and temporarily masking the pigment.

Days 14–28 – Color Reappears
Pigment begins to resurface as your skin continues to heal. Your brows will start to look more even and natural.

Day 42 – Perfecting Touch-Up
At your follow-up appointment, we'll refine the shape and color. Final results will look soft, balanced, and beautifully healed.

Will I need a touch-up?

Yes. A perfecting session 6–8 weeks after your initial appointment is highly recommended to reinforce color and shape. This is not included in your initial service fee.
